The Nest 2020: Wolvennest, The Ruins of Beverast & others (Brussels)

A year ago, this was the last show we visited before the C-Virus was about to hit Europe. What an evening for one last concert until now.

A year ago, this was the last show we visited before the C-Virus was about to hit Europe, and especially Belgium, on February 29th. But what an evening for a last concert, if I would have know this evening would became our last supper, our last real live concert, I would not have chosen anything else than traveling to the famous Ancienne Belgique hosting The Nest.

Dread Sovereign is the doom rock side project of Primordial‘s Alan Averill. Like every other band Nemtheanga plays in, this could have easily been the headlining act, when it came to stage presence, the superb song writing and the overall performance this evening.

The second band, Saturnalia Temple, played a good mix of stoner doom, which unfortunately did not really fit in that evening.

Next up was another de-facto headliner, no one less than Germany’s exceptional black/doom metal band The Ruins of Beverast. The black metal visionary Alexander von Meilenwald has to be experienced live with his band. As former drummer and permanent member of Nagelfar, the impact of this 90s band even reached the depths in the Andes together with former bassist Sven Dinninghof, who now runs the prestigious label Ván Records. With The Ruins of Beverast, black metal moves to another level of atmosphere and complexity. The 2017 album Exuvia was positioned in several of our top lists of that year, Dieguex  reviewed it.

Last time we saw Wolvennest, they had to open the event and we were instantly blown away by their music. It is only fair, that Wolvennest were the headlining act this evening to leave the crowd stunned. Doom-mastermind DéHà joined the band on guest vocals. Besides Slow and many other activities he was producer and guest musician on Wolvennest’s highly acclaimed album Void, which made it on Krups Top 2018.

The Belgians never stop to amaze, doom metal might be their biggest cultural export after comics and beer! What a night and what a place to spent with friends and like-minded people.
